Cassie: Hey, everybody, it’s Cassie from Helpertech, and I was just going to talk to you about what is in a screen and we’re looking at the iPhone 7. You know, it’s one of the more common repairs we see, it being the 7’s kind of the middle of the road phone at the moment, being a couple of years old. So, this one already has the mid shield on. This is just a straight piece of metal that holds the cables in place and then it also backs up these ridges on the side. That’s what actually clicks into the frame and holds your screen down. You can kind of see where the ridges are up top that hook underneath it as well.
Here’s the ear speaker. This sits up at the top, and it actually lays over and in between the proximity sensor. Now, the proximity sensor is kind of the most complicated part of this. It’s got the front camera. It also has the proximity sensor itself and a light sensor for changing your brightness to match the time of day. And that gold square is the mic, the Siri mic, and it’s also the mic that engages when you’re actually doing Siri or the front camera, anything like that. And then you can see the gold context there on the bottom. That’s what the ear speaker sits on top of, that’s how it gets its power.
So, when you’re having an issue with not hearing anything or Siri won’t talk to you, that kind of thing, a lot of times it is the proximity sensor that’s gone out just because it is a cable that has a lot of things moving through it. So, this was just a quick overview to show you what’s in the screens that we put on.
